History
Casa de Moneda de Chile in Santiago, also known as the Chilean Mint, is the official producer of paper currency and coinage in Chile. The mint also is responsible for manufacturing license plates, passports, and medals. The mint has a rich history dating back to 1743, when the country was still under Spanish rule. Francisco Garcia Huidobro, an aristocrat in the region, requested a new facility to deal with the countrys currency shortage. His wish was ultimately granted by King Philip V.
