{{/presale}}The Barber Coinage was one of the few design programs in American coining history to use the same design on at least one face of the coin across various denominations. Named for Charles E. Barber, the Chief Engraver of the United States Mint who created the designs, the Barber Coinage included the US dime, quarter, and half-dollar denominations produced from 1892 to 1916. Provident Metals now offers 90% Silver Barber Quarters to you for online purchasing.
Highlights:
When you purchase 90% Silver Barber Quarters, each of the individual coins comes in circulated condition. These coins were previously handled in circulation and will show the requisite wear and tear common among circulated currency. Date marks possible in this listing run the length of the design program for Barber Quarters from 1892 to 1916. A total of 40 Barber Quarters are housed in protective plastic and make up the $10 (USD) face value.
Obverse
Charles E. Barbers right-profile bust of Liberty is found on the obverse of the 90% Silver Barber Quarters. This vision of Liberty uses Greco-Roman inspirations and more masculine features for the image of Liberty. The bust includes a wreath crown on the head of Liberty with inscriptions of In God We Trust, the date mark, and 13 stars included on this face of the coin.
Reverse
Barber also designed the reverse image of the 90% Silver Barber Quarters. Here, he chose to go with a modified Great Seal of the United States that uses the heraldic eagle. The design includes the eagle with the national shield on its chest. It clutches an olive branch in one talon and arrows in the other, with the birds head looking toward the olive branch. A cluster of 13 stars is featured above its head with inscriptions including United States of America and Quarter Dollar.
History
Charles E. Barber designed a singular bust of Liberty for use on the dime, quarter, and half dollar in the Barber Coinage. He used the same heraldic eagle design for the reverse of the quarter and half dollar, while creating a design for the reverse of the dime that featured only the denomination surrounded by a wreath.
