{{/presale}}The first Guilder coins were issued by the Kingdom of Holland, and later the provinces of the Netherlands, in 1680. Gilders would remain the official currency of the Kingdom of the Netherlands into the 21st century when the Euro was introduced and many of Europes nations abandoned individual fiat currencies for a singular currency. Provident Metals currently has 10 Guilders Gold Coins from Queen Wilhelminas reign available to you for purchase online.
Highlights:
When you purchase one of these 10 Guilders Gold Coins online at Provident Metals, you are purchasing a historic gold coin from the Royal Dutch Mint struck during the reign of Queen Wilhelmina. The coins are 90% gold with 10% copper and available in Brilliant Uncirculated condition. A former circulation coin, these BU coins have no signs of handling, but can feature minor flaws from production such as breaks in the luster or spotted surfaces. Each coin comes with a protective plastic flip.
Obverse
The obverse side of 10 Guilders Gold Coins features an effigy of Queen Wilhelmina. The longest-reigning monarch in Dutch history, Wilhelmina first featured on 10 Guilders Gold Coins in 1897 at the age of just 17 when she was not yet crowned Queen of the Netherlands in an official manner. Her effigy can vary on this side of the coins based on the date mark you receive.
Reverse
On the reverse side of the 10 Guilders Gold Coins is an image of the arms of the Kingdom of the Netherlands. The Royal Arms features a rampant lion in left-profile relief with a crown on its head and a sword in one of its front paws. The inscriptions on both sides of the coins are in Dutch.
History
Queen Wilhelmina reigned as Queen of the Netherlands from 1890 until 1948 when she abdicated the crown due to declining health. Wilhelmina was the first female monarch of the Netherlands and enjoyed the longest reign at 58 years in total. She came to the throne in 1890 at the age of 10 and was formally inaugurated in 1898 upon her 18th birthday. 10 Guilder Gold Coins issued with her effigy were struck from 1897 to 1933, making the coins one of the last circulating gold pieces in Europe.
