{{/presale}} {{#promotion_on}}The Texas Mint has joined forces with the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association (PRCA) to produce a silver round series that celebrates rodeo competition and the Western values it represents. Each piece in this series contains 1 troy oz of .999 pure silver and showcases reverse-proof artistry. Right now, 1 oz Silver Reverse Proof PRCA Steer Wrestling Rounds are available at Provident Metals.
Highlights:
Each 1 oz Silver Reverse Proof PRCA Steer Wrestling Round ships individually packaged for protection. The round is enclosed in a capsule and comes with a display box, which is placed within a PRCA-themed outer shipper. Each round features reverse-proof visuals that showcase reflective design elements against matte surfaces.
Obverse
The obverse of the Silver Reverse Proof PRCA Steer Wrestling Round displays the PRCAs official logo. This design shows a cowboy on horseback inside a shield with the PRCA initials at the lower right. The background features a braided-rope border with text noting the associations full name, metal content, weight, and purity. The inscriptions include PROFESSIONAL RODEO COWBOYS ASSOCIATION, PRORODEO, .999 SILVER, and 1 TROY OZ.
Reverse
The reverse of the 1 oz Silver Reverse Proof PRCA Steer Wrestling Round shows a cowboy mid-action, bringing down a steer. Steer wrestling is judged by speed, with the clock starting as the steer crosses the barrier and stopping once its on its side with legs aligned. Breaking the barrier early adds ten seconds, while failure to complete the maneuver results in no time. Winning times typically range between 3 and 5 seconds. The inscriptions read STEER WRESTLING and PRO RODEO COWBOYS ASSOCIATION.
History
Steer wrestling is one of the most physically intense rodeo events. The cowboy jumps from a running horse onto a sprinting steer, grabs it by the horns, and wrestles it to the ground so it lands flat on its side with all four legs pointing in one direction. The event was first developed by Bill Pickett in the early 1900s. His early version involved biting the steers lip, a move no longer permitted today.
