{{/presale}}The Provident Prospector Series of silver rounds proved so popular with collectors that the inaugural design is coming back for a limited time. Now struck by SilverTowne, the first in the four-round series returns with the Prospector returning to a beautiful 1 oz silver round. Today, you have a second opportunity to purchase the 1 oz Silver Provident Prospector Rounds online from Provident Metals.
Highlights:
The Provident Prospector Series includes a total of four designs. None of the designs had a mintage cap. Instead, weve opted to have the rounds struck for a limited period of time while demand exists and then production of each comes to an end. This Prospector design helped launch the collection and was followed by the Gunslinger, Pony Express, and Can Can Girl designs.
Obverse
Prospectors set out for the American West in the late 1840s following the discovery of gold in California. While the California Gold Rush was largely limited to 1848 and 1849, that wasnt the end of the westward movement of American families and prospectors. Silver discoveries in Nevada and later gold discoveries in the Yukon Territories of Canada and the US territory of Alaska led more and more people west in hopes of a fresh start and vast riches.
Central to the livelihood of any Prospector was a sturdy, hard-working pack mule. Everything from daily supplies to tents and mining tools were packed on these mules as the individual Prospector moved from one hopeful location to another in search of gold and silver. Here, the Prospector stands with a walking stick in one hand and his gold pan in the other. You can see a shovel at his feet, towering pine trees in the distance, and the peaks of the Sierra Nevada Mountains looming in the distance.
Reverse
For the reverse of each 1 oz Silver Provident Prospector Round, the sleepy western town returns as well. This design showcase the classic western main street. A single dirt road down the middle of the two is the hub of activity as the saloon and local hotel are connected by boardwalks. In this design, everyday people go about their business walking to and from school, the store, and work.
History
The Provident Prospector Series proved immensely popular. This re-issue of the Prospector design that kicked off the series gives you another chance to capture the first design before it disappears again. The rounds are now produced by SilverTowne.
