The Buffalo Nickel is one of the most iconic American coin designs of all-time. Widely regarded as the first major circulation coin to feature a Native American figure, the Buffalo Nickel was in circulation from 1913 to 1938 and has been recreated on countless replica rounds in silver and copper. The American Legacy Collection from the Osborne Mint seeks to reimagine four of the nations greatest designs in incredible domed relief. Provident Metals now offers you the first design in the series in the form of the 1 oz Silver Domed American Legacy Buffalo Nickel Round.

Highlights:

  • Arrives with a protective capsule and includes a Certificate of Authenticity!
  • 1st design in the American Legacy Collection of silver rounds!
  • Limited mintage of just 10,000 silver rounds!
  • Contains 1 Troy oz of .999 pure silver.
  • Original creations by James Earle Fraser.
  • Obverse and reverse design fields have the portrait of an indigenous tribal figure.
  • The obverse features an impressive domed field.
  • Unique serial numbers on the edges.

Your 1 oz Silver Proof Domed American Legacy Buffalo Nickel Round ships with a custom-fitted protective plastic capsule and includes a numbered Certificate of Authenticity from the Osborne Mint. The number on the COA exactly matches the one found on the edge of the silver round. These proof products have frosted designs with mirrored background fields.

Obverse

For the obverse, the Osborne Mint reimagines the original Buffalo Nickel design from James Earle Fraser. In a sense, this is the same right-profile portrait of a tribal figure with Liberty and a date mark inscribed. However, the domed shape of this field creates 10 times the depth of visual brilliance in the portrait of the humble indigenous figure shown here.

Reverse

The reverse of 1 oz Silver Proof Domed American Legacy Buffalo Nickel Rounds includes the same portrait, this time captured in left-profile relief. As the other side of the round is raised, or domed, this side is not. The indigenous figures portrait is sunken into the field of the round and comes with markings of the weight, purity, and metal content.

History

The Buffalo Nickel was designed by James Earle Fraser in 1913 during the administration of President William Howard Taft. The images on the original nickels included this indigenous figures portrait on the obverse and an American bison on the reverse. The coins were in production from 1913 to 1938.

Ordering

American Legacy Buffalo Nickel Silver Rounds are available in this series in proof, colorized proof, and antique options.
