When you purchase one of these 1 oz Silver Molon Labe Rounds from Provident Metals, you will receive a round that is housed in individual or bulk packaging. Individual plastic flips are available for single rounds and acrylic tubes for multiples of 20 silver rounds. This design represents the sixth release of the coveted Molon Labe collection.

Obverse

On the obverse of Silver Molon Labe Rounds is a depiction of the battle between Sparta and the Persian Army. In this particular design, a Spartan warrior is on horseback and leading his forces into the thick of the fight against the Persian Army. This individuals horse is rearing up as he charges and launches his spear into a Persian warrior. Throughout the background field, other Persian and Spartan soldiers clash. The lone inscription on this face is along the top rocker and uses a unique script to spell out MOLON LABE.

Reverse

The reverse side of 1 oz Silver Molon Labe Rounds comes with a common design that Intaglio Mint uses across a variety of its silver round collections. The design shown here includes the mint logo at the very center with inscriptions of INTAGLIO MINT and EST. 2010. There is a swirling field of radial lines in the background with inscriptions around the rim of the design field that read ONE TROY OUNCE, .999 FINE SILVER, and MMXXI, the Roman numeral date mark.

History

Molon Labe is a phrase that was rumored to be uttered at the Battle of Thermopylae. When Xerxes offered to spare the life of King Leonidas and his 300 Spartans, Leonidas is rumored to have responded with the phrase molon labe, which roughly translates as come and take them. Refusing to give up their arms and let the Persians pass, Leonidas and his men fought to the death over the course of three days to slow the advance of the Persian Army.
