{{/presale}}There are countless symbols associated with the winter season and Christmas holiday period on the calendar. One of the oldest toys gifted to children during the Christmas holiday is the rocking horse. A simple toy often carved from wood, rocking horses have roots in the Middle Ages and continue to offer a simple form of pleasure for young children. Today, you have the chance to get 1 oz Silver Merry Christmas Rocking Horse Rounds online at Provident Metals.
Highlights:
Rocking horses are simple toys and are made in one of two fashions. The most common form of the rocking horse features a horse that is rigidly attached to curved rocking skids at the base of the toy. Another sort of rocking horse is one that is suspended instead of attached to a curved rocker. The horse is suspended by straps from an iron frame and offers more of a bouncing motion than a rocking motion.
Obverse
A rocking horse is found in the design of 1 oz Silver Merry Christmas Rocking Horse Rounds. The larger of the two elements, the wooden rocking horse has peg legs that are attached to two rigid, curved rockers at the base. The horse has a great level of detail in its design, with fluffy fabric to complete the mane and tail of the horse. At the base of the horse, you will notice a wooden toy train. There is also an inscription of MERRY CHRISTMAS on this side of the round.
Reverse
Snowflakes are featured on the reverse side of Silver Merry Christmas Rocking Horse Rounds. This design shows a large snowflake at the center of the design with several smaller snowflakes falling gently through the background field. The border of the design field includes holly and berries, with inscriptions of ONE TROY OUNCE and .999 FINE SILVER. You will also find a small SilverTowne mint mark on this side of the round.
History
Rocking horses were inspired by the rocking cradle of the Middle Ages. The rocking cradle was a device used by jousters during the Middle Ages to practice their skills in the saddle for a joust.
