Obverse
The obverse of the Silver Colorized NFL Pittsburgh Steelers Round highlights the well-known Steelmark logo in full color. Introduced in 1962, the Steelmark features three four-pointed stars in red, blue, and yellow surrounding the team name Steelers. The clubs black and gold colors, also called Steeler Gold, tie directly to Pittsburghs steel industry heritage. The inscriptions include PITTSBURGH STEELERS and ESTABLISHED 1933.
Reverse
On the reverse of the 1 oz Silver Colorized Pittsburgh Steelers Round, you will find the official NFL shield logo. The emblem displays the leagues initials with a football placed above, while two sets of four stars appear at the bottom, symbolizing the AFC and NFC divisions. The inscriptions read NATIONAL FOOTBALL LEAGUE, EST. 1920, ONE TROY OUNCE, and .999 FINE SILVER.
History
Founded in 1933 by Art Rooney Sr., the Steelers originally played as the Pittsburgh Pirates before switching to the Steelers name in 1940 to reflect the citys steel industry. Though the franchise faced years of difficulties and did not win a playoff game until 1972, it became a powerhouse in the 1970s under head coach Chuck Noll. That decade brought the legendary Steel Curtain defense and four Super Bowl championships in just six years (1974, 1975, 1978, 1979).
