{{/presale}}An iconic American coin design is reimagined in this .9999 pure silver round from Scottsdale Mint, celebrating indigenous culture in North America. Known as the Buffalo Girl, this round draws inspiration from James Earle Frasers 1913 Buffalo Nickel while paying tribute to a Lakota woman who showed exceptional courage during the Battle of Little Big Horn in 1876. Right now, 1 oz Silver Buffalo Girl Rounds are available at Provident Metals.
Highlights:
Each 1 oz Silver Buffalo Girl Round comes in Brilliant Uncirculated condition. These rounds are available individually in protective plastic flips, and multiples of 20 are packaged in plastic tubes for larger orders.
Obverse
The obverse of Silver Buffalo Girl Rounds features a right-profile portrait of a young Lakota woman, honoring Minne Hollow Wood. This design captures her strength and bravery, portraying her in the war bonnet she earned through her courageous deeds. While Minnes accomplishments were unique, Lakota women often played critical roles in battles, helping defend camps and assisting male warriors. Inscriptions include 9999 FINE SILVER.
Reverse
On the reverse, the 1 oz Silver Buffalo Girl Round displays a depiction of the American bison, an animal deeply important to the Lakota people. Bison provided vital resources like food, shelter, and clothing. Beyond their practical use, the bison were also symbolic, representing strength, abundance, and the unity of life for the Lakota. The inscriptions include 1 TROY OUNCE.
History
Minne Hollow Wood, a young Lakota woman, earned her place in Lakota history by showing tremendous bravery during the Battle of Little Big Horn in 1876. Her actions during this pivotal battle earned her the right to wear a war bonnet, a sacred honor traditionally reserved for men in the tribe.
