Highlights:
The German and Austrian people enjoy close ties with one another that are built, historically, on geographic proximity. Modern-day Austria consists of nine federated states, with Vienna the capital and largest of those states. Vienna is located on the southern border of Germany. Historically, German and Austrian peoples were ruled by the same powers with both nations part of the Holy Roman Empire from the Middle Ages until the early 19th century. The two remained a part of the same union under the German Confederation. It wasnt until 1871 that the two were split.
Obverse
On the obverse of 1 oz Silver 2021 Germania The Allegories Austria & Germania Rounds is a depiction of the two female personifications. The field shows Austria seated to the left with a laurel wreath on her head and a spear in her right hand. Germania is seated on the right with an oak wreath on her head and the imperial sword of Germany clutched in her left. The two hold hands resting on Germanias right knee. The inscriptions include ALLEGORIES and 1 OZ 999.9 FINE SILVER.
Reverse
The reverse side of the Silver Germania The Allegories Austria & Germania Rounds features the coat of arms created for the Germania Mint. This design includes a quartered shield that boasts a double-headed eagle in the first quadrant, a checkered pattern in the second, a ribbon with three flowers in the third, and a wild boar in the fourth. The shield is topped by a crown, flanked by an oak wreath, and surrounded by inscriptions of GERMANIA, 2021, and 5 MARK.
History
The Allegories Series has previously featured Germania with three other allegorical figures. The first was Britannia, followed by the historic American allegory, Columbia. The third was Italia, a figure based on the traditions of the Roman Empire.
