The Perth Mint was founded in 1899 as the third and final Royal Mint branch location in Australia. As of 1965, the Royal Australian Mint serves as the sole sovereign mint of the nation. However, as of the 1970s, the state government of Western Australia owns and operates the Perth Mint.
