Obverse

On the obverse side of 1 oz Copper Walking Liberty Rounds is the iconic image of Liberty that Weinman created in 1916. His depiction is believed to have been inspired by the French sower gold coin of the late-19th and early-20th centuries. Liberty is shown in left-profile relief walking toward the sun on the horizon as it peeks over a mountain range. Her right hand is outstretched toward the sun as her left hand carries branches of oak and laurel. The American flag is shown draped over her shoulders.

Reverse

The reverse face of 1 oz Copper Walking Liberty Rounds comes with a common design for the 1 oz copper rounds in this series. Exclusive to the private mint that issues these copper rounds, it includes a set of wings with a unique US shield at the center and the American flag overhead.

History

The Walking Liberty design emerged in 1916 as one of three designs to replace the Barber Coinage for the dime, quarter, and half dollar. The popular Walking Liberty design was chosen for the half dollar and in production from 1916 to 1947. The design has proven so popular in the modern bullion era that it is replicated on a wide range of silver bars, silver rounds, and copper rounds. It is most famously used as the obverse of the American Eagle 1 oz Silver bullion coin from the United States Mint.
