{{/presale}}The series of Legalized Collection rounds now brings the popular designs from the proof and antique silver rounds back for another go-round as copper rounds. The popular designs celebrate the legalization movement taking place across the United States as one state after another looks to legalize the recreational use of cannabis. Today, you have the opportunity to get 1 oz Copper Legalized Collection Washington Rounds online at Provident Metals.
Highlights:
Like most states, Washington has a complex history with cannabis. It was outlawed in the state with the passage of a House Bill in the state legislature in 1923, imposing a 10-year-prison sentence on anyone caught in possession. In 1971, the state dropped the severity of charges for those caught in possession to a misdemeanor. In 1979, the state began looking into the legalization of medicinal marijuana and cannabis products, but would not succeed in legalizing it for this purpose until 1998. In 2012, the legalization of recreational cannabis was achieved.
Obverse
President George Washington is depicted in the obverse design of the Copper Legalized Collection Washington Round. The 1st President of the United States features in the official seal of Washington, and in this lighthearted twist on the design, the president is shown with a joint between his lips. Inscriptions include State of Washington, Hemp, Grow it Everywhere, Initiative 502, and 2012.
Reverse
A cannabis leaf is found in the reverse design of the 1 oz Copper Legalized Collection Round. The design shows a cannabis leaf that has been handcuffed and includes a design element around the border that consists of a chain. The inscriptions include Legalized, End the War, Natures Medicine, and Hemp for Industry.
History
Washington state voters approved Initiative 502 on election day during the 2012 US General Election. The measure passed with roughly 56% of the vote. The inclusion of the measure on the ballot helped drive voter turnout in Washington during the election, with 81% of eligible voters in the state heading to the polls that fall.
