{{/presale}}Strengthen your 12 Labors of Hercules Series with the Girdle of Hippolyta 1 oz Copper Round from Provident Metals. This exclusive round was manufactured at the Provident Mint, an IRA approved facility, and is composed of 1 AVDP ounce of .999 fine copper.
For his ninth labor, Hercules was sent to retrieve the girdle of Hippolyta’s girdle (belt) to appease King Eurystheus’ daughter. Hercules set off retrieve the girdle from the Queen of the Amazons with a small group of companions. While en route, two of Hercules’ group were killed by the sons of Minos in Paros. Angered, Hercules killed the two sons of Minos, and threatened worse. To placate Hercules, Minos offered two of his grandsons to replace Hercules’ fallen friends on his journey.
Hippolyta, impressed by Hercules, planned to give her girdle to him, but Hera – an enemy of Hercules – had other plans. She deceived Hercules into thinking that Hippolyta intended to fight. When Hippolyta arrived on horseback, Hercules killed her, left with the girdle and returned it to Eurystheus, accomplishing the ninth of his 12 labors.
Hippolyta can be seen on the reverse of this 1 oz silver round. She stands facing right in her girdle, holding a spear in her left hand. “GIRDLE OF HIPPOLYTA” and “IX” (Roman numeral nine) are engraved.
Hercules is featured on the obverse with his head bowed. He wears the Nemean Lion’s skin on his head for armor, and clutches his wooden club in his right hand. The round’s weight and purity are inscribed along the left edge of the rim.
The Girdle of Hippolyta Copper round is a unique addition to Provident Metals’ offerings of Privately Minted bullion. Individual 1 oz Girdle rounds will ship in plastic flips, quantities of 20 will ship in mint plastic tubes, and quantities of 500 will ship in a strapped Provident Metals Purple Monster Box.
