Provident is proud to release the 1 oz Copper Cretan Bull round, the 7th release in the 12 Labors of Hercules Series. Each copper round consists of 1 AVDP ounce of .999 fine copper, and was produced at the Provident Mint, an IRA approved minting facility.

Cretan Bull is a continuation of the 12 Labors of Hercules series, which celebrates the heroics of Hercules. The demi-god was tasked with accomplishing all 12 labors as penance for harming his family after being driven insane by Hera. Upon regaining his sanity, Hercules felt terrible about his actions, and was sent to perform the labor to atone for his regrettable actions.

For his 7th labor, Hercules was sent to capture the powerful creature. The bull had been causing chaos for croppers and was demolishing orchard walls in Crete, so King Minos gave permission for Hercule to remove the monster from the area.

Sneaking up from behind, Hercules gripped the animal by its neck and strangled the bull until it was unconscious. He then shipped it back to King Eurystheus, who declared the labor “done”. After hiding in fear upon seeing it, Eurystheus released the bull into the wild. It then wandered into the city of Marathon and became the Marathonian Bull.

The Cretan Bull copper rounds will be available for one month, from March 12 through April 12, 2015.

The hulking Cretan Bull is featured on the reverse of this 1 oz copper round. It faces right and stands proud with its head raised, chest out and muscles on display. “VII” and “CRETAN BULL” are engraved above the bull. The roman numbers represent the seventh labor of Hercules.

The Greek hero is featured on the obverse with the Nemean Lion fur on his head as armor. He clutches his wooden club. The round’s weight and purity are inscribed near the rim of the round.

Individual copper rounds will be shipped in plastic envelopes. Multiples of 20 will ship in plastic tubes and quantities of 500 will be shipped in our Provident Monster Box.
