{{/presale}}Quick, name all of the reindeer that pull Santas sleigh around the world on Christmas Eve? Did you get nine? Or better yet, were you able to name any the other reindeer whose noses dont grow red in the night sky? Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer is the most beloved reindeer from Santas team and he was introduced to popular culture in a Montgomery Ward 1939 booklet. Now you can own your own image of a cartoon dog dressed as Rudolph on a copper round. Right now, 1 oz Copper Cartoon Rudolph Rounds are available from Provident Metals.
Highlights:
The Osborne Mints Christmas Collection of copper rounds offers a variety of different designs, each one focused on the spirit of the holiday season. The images run the gauntlet from the symbols of the season to popular culture favorites like Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer. Each round has a satin frost on the designs and polished background fields to create contrasting matte designs and mirrored backgrounds.
Obverse
On the obverse field of the 1 oz Copper Cartoon Rudolph Round is the image of a small dog dressed for the Christmas season as Rudolph. The dog wears a knit hat with antlers on the top and has a collar with a bell around his neck.
Reverse
The reverse of all rounds in the Osborne Mint Christmas Collection of copper rounds shares the same design elements. Here, various snowflakes of different shapes and sizes fall throughout the design field.
History
The 1823 poem that later becomes known as The Night Before Christmas introduced millions to the team of reindeer pulling Santas sleigh around the world on Christmas Eve. Though those original eight reindeer are still part of the team in cartoons, movies, and books today, one member of the team introduced in 1939 overshadows the rest. Rudolph made his first appearance in a booklet published by Montgomery Ward that year in a story written by Robert L. May. He would go on to appear in a short cartoon in 1948, a song in 1949, and comic books beginning in 1950.
