Since BANDAI NAMCO introduced it in 1980, the little yellow character has stayed a favorite for gamers of all ages. In 2025, PAC-MAN reaches its 45th anniversary, and PAMP Suisse is marking the moment with special commemorative releases, including a 1 gram gold bar. Each 1 Gram Gold PAC-MAN 45th Anniversary Bar comes sealed inside tamper-evident packaging with anniversary artwork. The accompanying assay card lists the limited mintage and features an individual serial number that corresponds to the bar inside.
Obverse
The obverse of the Gold PAC-MAN 45th Anniversary Bar celebrates the classic maze chase. PAC-MAN is shown closing in on one of the ghosts, ready for a bite. The simple goal of eating dots while weaving through corridors and trying to avoid the bright ghost characters made the game easy to pick up and hard to put down. The inscription includes the PAC-MAN name as found in the game.
Reverse
On the reverse, the 1 Gram Gold PAC-MAN 45th Anniversary Bar uses a fun background filled with familiar PAC-MAN symbols. Hidden in the pattern are dots, PAC-MAN figures, ghosts, and cherries just like those found in the original levels. Features such as power pellets, which let PAC-MAN turn the hunt around for a short time, helped the game feel exciting without being complicated. The inscriptions read 1 G, .9999 FINE GOLD, the PAC-MAN trademark, and the BNEI copyright.
History
The first PAC-MAN machines launched in Japan in May 1980 from Namco under the original title Puck Man. By October 1980, a North American version arrived through Midway Games and quickly took off in arcades. Creator Toru Iwatani wanted to offer something cheerful and welcoming in a world full of action-heavy arcade shooters, so he built a game around quick thinking, bright visuals, and a playful theme.
