Obverse

On the obverse side of 90% Silver Walking Liberty Half Dollar Coins is the image of Walking Liberty. Her figure is captured in left-profile relief as she walks from right to left across the face of the coins design field. Liberty reaches for the sun on the horizon with her right hand while wearing the American flag over her shoulders and carrying the branches of oak and laurel in her left hand.

Reverse

The reverse side of 90% Silver Walking Liberty Half Dollars in this $1 Face Value allotment includes the American bald eagle. In this design, the American bald eagle is rising up from its mountaintop perch with its talons on a young sapling and its wings ready to life it off into flight.

History

The Walking Liberty Half Dollar design is considered the most popular in the history of the denomination. Weinman created this design for consideration by the US Mint as a replacement on one of the three Barber Coinage denominations: dime, quarter, and half dollar. Weinmans designs would end up replacing the dime and half dollar denominations from the Barber Coinage. Walking Liberty proved so popular that it was revived in 1986 by the United States Mint for use on the American Eagle Silver Coin, the national silver bullion series.
