{{/presale}} {{#promotion_on}}As part of the celebration of Americas 250th anniversary of independence, Goldbacks has introduced a special one-time Washington D.C. Goldback release. Washington D.C. became the nations capital under the Residence Act of 1790, a compromise influenced by Alexander Hamilton, Thomas Jefferson, and James Madison. This design places focus on Columbia, Americas earliest female allegory, as its central figure. Right now, 1 Colorized Washington D.C. Goldback Gold Notes in GEM 70 condition are available online at Provident Metals.
Highlights:
Each 1 Colorized Washington D.C. Goldback Gold Note offered here comes graded GEM 70 and sealed inside a protective plastic currency slab. Notes with this grade show no visible signs of handling, even when examined under up to five times magnification. One of the defining traits of GEM 70 examples is precise centering of the design elements. These notes also feature added color to highlight the artwork, along with updated security features and a refreshed Goldback wordmark symbol.
Design
On the obverse of the Colorized Washington D.C. Goldback Gold Note, Columbia appears in the foreground with the U.S. Capitol Building set behind her. Columbia has traditionally been shown with items that symbolize American values. Her shield represents defense and the protection of liberty, as well as the determination to maintain independence and democratic ideals. The sword reflects strength and preparedness, showing a willingness to defend freedom and justice when required. Together, these elements present the United States as a nation committed to safeguarding its principles.
History
Washington D.C. was formed from land provided by Maryland and Virginia along the Potomac River. Its placement was intended to create a balance between northern and southern states. President George Washington chose the specific location and appointed Pierre Charles LEnfant to design the layout of the new capital city, which was later named in his honor. The federal government officially moved from Philadelphia to Washington D.C. in 1800, though development of the city progressed slowly in its early years.
