{{/presale}} {{#promotion_on}}Goldbacks are a privately produced form of voluntary local currency that incorporate real gold into each note. These notes are created using a thin layer of 24-karat gold sealed between protective polyester layers, allowing the gold to remain secure while the note stays flexible and durable. Every Goldback features detailed artwork and contains a measured amount of physical gold, making it one of the few examples of modern currency that includes spendable gold value. Originally introduced in Utah, the Goldback program has expanded into additional states. The Idaho series continues this expansion with designs that reflect the states culture and historical connections. Provident Metals now offers the 1/2 Idaho Goldback Gold Note.
Highlights:
All 1/2 Idaho Goldback Gold Notes contain 24-karat gold and include several modern security features. Each note incorporates UV-enhanced elements within the artwork, along with micro-printing and unique serial numbers that help verify authenticity. Individual notes are placed in protective currency sleeves for storage. Orders of 100 notes arrive bundled together with a black band to keep them organized. These bundles do not include individual sleeves for every note.
Design
For the design of the 1/2 Idaho Goldback Gold Note, the concept of Pietas is reflected through imagery connected to Sacagawea. Sacagawea, a Lemhi Shoshone woman known for her role in assisting the Lewis and Clark Expedition, has strong ties to the land that is now Idaho. She was born around 1788 near present-day Salmon in the Lemhi Valley. As a child, she was captured by Hidatsa raiders and later lived among the Mandan people in modern-day North Dakota. During the Corps of Discoverys journey through Idaho in 1805, Sacagaweas familiarity with the land, her ability to communicate with the Shoshone, and her steady presence helped the expedition continue its journey.
History
In Roman society, Pietas represented a core moral value centered on loyalty and devotion to family, the gods, and ones country. The virtue was often illustrated as a calm female figure who embodied a sense of duty and respect for sacred obligations. In classical artwork, Pietas might appear holding a patera used for ritual offerings or accompanied by a stork, which symbolized devotion to family. Some depictions also include a swallow or an altar. More broadly, pietas represented a guiding principle that encouraged people to honor the important bonds between individuals, their communities, and the divine.
