Obverse

The obverse side of the 1/1000 oz Gold 2020 Aurum Republic of Ghana Note includes a bust of a native Ghanaian woman that is inspired by images of African Liberty. The design element includes the African Liberty design with inscriptions of Republic of Ghana, the individual serial number, one cedi, 1, and two markings of 1. You will also notice a small version of the national coat of arms on this side.

Reverse

On the reverse side of the 1/1000 oz Gold 2020 Aurum Republic of Ghana Notes is a large version of the national coat of arms. The coat of arms for the Republic of Ghana was adopted in March 1957 and depicts two eagles supporting a quartered shield. The shield is topped by a single star with St. Georges cross quartering the shield. The quarters include a chieftains sword with the Okyeames staff in the first quarter, Osu Castle in the second quarter, a cacao tree in the third quarter, and a gold mine in the fourth quarter. Inscriptions on this side of the gold note include the national motto of Freedom and Justice below the coat of arms, with Republic of Ghana above, 1 Cedi repeating below, and 1 in the upper corners.

History

The release of a Republic of Ghana Aurum Note honors the nations ascendance to the top of the gold-producing totem pole in Africa. In 2018, the Republic of Ghana produced 4.8 million ounces of gold and South African produced 4.2 million ounces of gold, surpassing the Republic of South Africa as the continents top producer of gold for the first time ever.
