Medal Highlights:
Each of these 2022 Chiwoo Cheonwang 1/10 oz Medallions was struck in .999 pure gold by KOMSCO, the central mint of South Korea. This limited mintage release is part of an ongoing series that began in 2016. Each medal is packaged inside its own white blister bard that contains assay details on the reverse side. KOMSCO has also released this version of the medal in black, blue, and red colored assay cards. At Provident Metals, we invite you to collect them all!
Obverse
On the obverse of 2022 South Korean Chiwoo Cheonwang Gold Medallions, you will find an image of the Doggaebi. This mythological creature is shown across the shield used by Chiwoo in battle. The Eastern equivalent of the hobgoblin, the Doggaebi has been featured in numerous popular folk myths from South Korea. You will also find inscriptions on the obverse reading 2022 FINE GOLD, .999 REPUBLIC OF KOREA, KOMSCO, 1/10 CLAY.
Reverse
The reverse of this South Korean 1/10 oz Gold Medallion contains a depiction of Chiwoo Cheonwang. This medium-closeup image shows the iconic warrior in a full suit of armor as he aims his bow on the battlefield. This marks the first time in the series we have seen Chiwoo wield a bow and arrow. The reverse also contains an inscription reading CHIWOO CHEONWANG across the upper border.
History
Since the series debuted in 2016, Chiwoo has been presented in a new design with each year of release. Generally, the designs follow a trajectory in which Chiwoo prepares for battle, engages in combat, and then emerges victorious. The series is inspired by one of South Koreas most beloved and compelling mythological figures. Known for his incredible military accomplishments, Chiwoo is the epitome of the fearless warrior who lives for battle.
