{{/presale}}One of the most anticipated releases each year from KOMSCO is the Gold South Korean Tiger. Introduced in 2016, this series offers new obverse depictions of the Korean tiger subspecies on each year and pairs this design with a unique reverse not commonly used on other bullion programs from the South Korean minting company. Today, you have the chance to buy 1/10 oz Gold 2021 South Korean Tiger Medals online from Provident Metals.
Highlights:
Tigers are no longer found in the wild on the Korean Peninsula, but these majestic beasts once roamed as far as the southernmost tip of the peninsula. The Korean tiger is known to be a local reference to the subspecies of Siberian Tigers that historically inhabited the peninsula, with the last known wild specimen killed in the 1920s.
Obverse
On the obverse of 1/10 oz Gold South Korean Tiger Medals is a vision of a young tiger cub. This new design for 2021 offers the image of a tiger cub that is lying down, though attentive to its surroundings, in the foreground. The tiger is shown near a line of bamboo, with a Korean structure in the background field. Inscriptions on this side include KOREAN TIGER 2021 and 1/10 oz.
Reverse
The reverse side of the Gold 2021 South Korean Tiger Medal comes with a unique depiction of the Korean Peninsula. Here, geographic features and political boundaries are forsaken in favor of a unifying depiction that uses the letters of the Hangul, the Korean alphabet, to form the shape of the peninsula. This side includes the Taeguk, the official emblem of the Republic of Korea, and is accompanied by a border design that includes tiger stripes, as well as inscriptions of REPUBLIC OF KOREA and FINE GOLD 999.
History
Like other collections from KOMSCO, the South Korean Tiger Series offers a new depiction of the primary design element each year. Notably, the 2021 release is the second in a row to offer a softer look at the tiger. The initial designs from 2016 to 2019 offered a look at the fearsome, powerful nature of the beasts, while the last two designs show tiger cubs in softer designs.
